Bridge the Gap Between Your Goals and Reality

If you’ve ever sat down to you computer or notebook to look at your goals

You probably took a look at the list and realized a massive gap

One between where you are and where you’re wanting to go.

It feels large and often overwhelming when you get into the “how” of it all

But if you’re truly a professional, it excites and motivates you.

Then you get into the day to day…

… and that excitement that was once drawing you in…

Is gone…

Paperwork here…

Marketing there…

Sales meeting today… rescheduled to tomorrow…

Accounting issue here…

Tax deadline there…

Licensing in a new state….

CE credits need doing…

All of a sudden, the day is filled with stuff that doesn’t move you toward your goal

But rather takes you into the oblivion of distraction and clean up work…

…Instead of high level strategy and execution.

All of a sudden that excitement and motivation you once had

Is now just a glimmer of hope out in the future, rather than a burning desire.

It’s common. You’re not alone in this feeling.

Neither are you immune from having these kinds of days and experiences.

We’ve all had them.

It’s just the nature of the business.

Most of the time we actually do it to ourselves.

When you begin to understand the mind and how it works

You’ll start to recognize that your brain is one of the greatest self-defense tools you have.

It keeps you safe, fed, and content. It keeps you alive.

Utilizing habits, routine, and energy management.

But according to your vision, you wanted to thrive.

Not just survive.

While consciously, the vision you’ve created sounds great…

All your subconscious sees is work and effort.

And so because of this…

You’re often times the very reason you can’t get seem to get ahead.

Your mind wants to shift to routine…not new projects.

Your subconscious will tell you you’re not good enough…even though you are.

Your time management gets bogged down by simple daily to-do’s rather than the new harder project.

When you understand this pattern, at a deep level, it’s actually pretty easy to fix.

I talk about it all the time in the IUL Insider PRO Mentoring calls I run.

While my focus is marketing and sales…

I am a firm believer that mindset will carry you farther than any marketing tactic of the day.

You can’t escape the natural tendency of the mind to keep you safe.

That’s built in and hardwired over centuries.

What you can do is break down the way you think into four core foundations.

1. Motivation - what’s the purpose and payoff of the vision
2. Mindset - what are you “setting” your mind to as a key focus
3. Mechanics - what highly trained skillsets are you employing within the vision
4. Mastery - what do you truly believe about your ability to make it all happen.

When we break it down into these 4 pieces, we can then begin to identify where you might be struggling.

Generally, people are easily “Motivated” unless they come from a background where they feel trapped.

Survival instincts do not let you focus on the future and thus motivation is fleeting.

People think “Mindset” is just looking at possibility, but no, more often people have the inability to focus on a singular thing until completion.

Understanding your “Mechanics” is the skillset portion. If you can’t do what you’re trying to do automatically, you’ll move slow.

Olympic medalists don’t think about what they’re doing, they just do it. The same rules apply to business.

Lastly, developing “Mastery” comes down to your own perception of you.

The old saying, “whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right.” Is this principle at hand.

You have hundreds of identities you’ve accumulated over the years.

Some of them will protect you by preventing you from doing what you’ve set out to do.

Because it’s scary, it’s new, you might fail, or you might succeed.

The key is looking at all of these and creating a balancing act of Mental Game Mechanics that work together to get you the high performance outputs you’re looking for.

Some of you will have more work to do than others.

Keep in mind, the game isn’t being played against someone else, it’s being played against yourself.

When you lean in on you, everything else gets better.

And that large gap that you created between where you are and where you’re wanting to go…

… gets smaller and smaller every single day.

But it all starts with you.

Now, go get ‘em.
